Introduction
Discography
Some people say that in order to get to know someone you must talk to them, well I read them instead, not because I don’t like talking to people, but in the case of Demiricous Scott Wilson it was because it was kind of hard to set a proper phone interview, well so I got the chance to send Scott a couple of questions and he gladly answer them, and just by reading his answers, he sounds like a pretty cool guy, a lot of use of the F word, but that’s cool it just comes to show .how relaxed and honest he can be.
I first listen to Demiricous thanks to a promo album Metal Blade send me, and it had a weird effect on me, at first it just sounded so similar between track and track, but later as I continued to listen to it, it started to grow on me, the songs began to stand out from each other and the riffs, the riffs were awesome; so I decided it was time to speak with the creators of this weird but contagious album.

"We just wrote an album that we would like to hear. I fucking love the old thrash shit. I really don’t like anything else"
CR: How are you, how was the tour with HIMSA?
Scott Wilson:
The Himsa shit went fucking awesome. Those guys are great dudes to tour with too. I’m glad they asked us to do this one.

CR: After that tour with HIMSA you guys are not going to stop, how many shows will you say Demiricous has played so far this year? What’s the most surprising thing when going on tour?
Scott Wilson:
Well. We’ve been at it for about 7 months straight, with a few weeks off here and there. I’d say the most surprising thing is how awesome people are to you when you are out. I mean we got people cooking for us and bringing beer and shit to shows for us. It’s fucked up. It’s amazing to go out there and meet so many cool ass motherfuckers that are down for the cause you know?

CR: You guys recently had some shows in the UK, how was it? Is the crowd different from the ones you encounter in the US?
Scott Wilson:
Fuck yeah they are different. They get in line at the front door at like noon over there. And the shows don’t start until 7 or 8. They are so fucking excited about metal over there it just incredible. They didn’t even know who we were but they still went ape shit.

CR: ONE (Hellbound) came out this year, what were your expectations towards this debut before the album came out?
Scott Wilson:
We didn’t have any expectations. If you expect shit, especially in the music biz, you will be fucking let down every time. To us, we are just making music that we want to hear…if people like it then that is fucking awesome. If not, whatever.

CR: I can see that the album is dedicated or at least is some sort of a tribute to Dimebag Darrell, just how important was he for the development of your taste for music?
Scott Wilson:
The whole band is a big Pantera fan. When he was shot it was just a huge fucking blow. I think he is an inspiration to us all. Not just with his guitar playing, but from what I’ve heard and seen, his personality and humbleness. The whole thing is just so sad. We felt like we had to thank him some how for blowing our minds all those years you know?

CR: Can we say that Demiricous has managed to revive the old school thrash sound with out compromising its identity on ONE (Hellbound)? What do you think of such a statement?
Scott Wilson:
Like I said, we just wrote an album that we would like to hear. I fucking love the old thrash shit. I really don’t like anything else. So that’s what I write. We didn’t really over think it to much. We aren’t really trying to do shit besides write good thrash albums. I don’t know if it’s a fucking revival.

CR: I really like the album, at first all the songs sounded pretty similar to me but later with a couple of more spins I started to differentiate the tracks, do you think that maybe ONE is an album that will grow on people after some time or that’s just a personal interpretation of your music?
Scott Wilson:
I don’t know what the fuck people are thinking when they listen to it. Albums that have taking awhile to grow on me usually turn out to be some of my favorites…so maybe that’s a compliment. I’m not sure. We wrote it song by song you know? So how ever you interpret it, you know, I can’t tell you you’re wrong. Just take it for what it is. A thrash album.

CR: What would you say is the single most important characteristic of this your debut album? When all the work was finish and the album was in stores what surprised you the most about the final out come of this effort?
Scott Wilson:
That people are actually buying it. Haha. But I think the best characteristic is that you don’t get much of what we are doing out there these days. All metal is now is just a bunch of gimmicky, fucking breakdown, shit. And if you have the three main ingredients that every motherfucker out there has, that’s all it fucking takes. Breakdowns, haircuts, and make up. It doesn’t matter if you’re a good band or not right now, if you got those things you can sell a billion albums in the first week. I think our main characteristic is that when you hear our shit, you know that we don’t give a fuck about all that bullshit. You’re getting metal for metals sake, not metal for Fads sake, or popularities sake, or any of that bandwagon bullshit.

CR: To me the album goes from a more “actual” aggressive thrash metal album until it reaches songs like “Matador” and “To serve is to destroy” taking me back to the old school thrash that I love; do you see this album as a development from which you guys show all the angles in which thrash metal has inspired your lives?
Scott Wilson:
If someone brings it to practice and we like it, then we go with it and build on it. It’s really as simple as that. If it ends up on the album it’s because we think its good.

CR: Certainly through the process of recording this album you guys had many ideas on how you wanted ONE to sound, but what about what you guys definitely didn’t want for this album, always speaking about the sound of the record off course?
Scott Wilson:
We wanted an old school vibe you know? No blown out kick drums or whatever people like these days. We wanted it really guitar driven you know? I think we did ok. But next time we’ll know a little more about what we are doing and hopefully the next album will sound even better.

CR: Demiricous did not had to go from little label to little label in order to land a contract with one of metal’s biggest record labels, how did that happened?
Scott Wilson:
We did not. We just signed to Metal Blade. I don’t know how we managed that really. We have good representation and I guess he got in there at the right time and place for us to get shit rolling. We had offers from Roadrunner and Posthetic and Century Media too. It was pretty fucked up. When we first started I never saw that coming.

CR: You guys have a video out, how was the whole recording process for you guys like?
Scott Wilson:
It was awesome. We went to New York and fucking shot it in one day. We worked with a guy named Dale and him and his work crew were amazing to us. It was a lot of fun and an awesome experience.

CR: Previously to ONE you guys had two demos if I’m not mistaken, what can you tell me about them, what did they sound like to you, and what elements you guys brought from those works into ONE?
Scott Wilson:
They fucking sound a lot different. A lot of melodic shit. Almost black metal. Especially on the first one. I think it’s safe to say those demos are just us kinda learning about ourselves as a band. This was the first band I’ve ever been in so I didn’t know what the fuck I was doing or how to write a song for that matter. And the 4 of us were just feeling it out you know? We didn’t have a plan, we just got together and wrote music. And slowly we are learning how to make it more brutal and shit you know? If you heard those things I think you’d know what I was talking about.

CR: What was life for Demiricous before ONE? Did you guys have regular jobs?
Scott Wilson:
We still have regular jobs. When we come home I go back to waiting tables. I haven’t seen a fucking dollar. So I gotta work when I’m home so I can throw a little money at my girlfriend to keep our apartment in check. It’s fucking rough man. At least the money situation is. Basically my life is the same I’m just gone on tour more often and I have less money then I did when I was home a lot.

CR: What would you say has been the biggest most important show Demiricous has played so far?
Scott Wilson:
I don’t know. We’ve played a lot of good ones. New England hardcore and Metal fest was pretty awesome this year. They are all pretty important though, if you think about it.

CR: Why is it that metal fans listen to as much bands as they can while metal musicians pretty much always seem to listen to few metal bands on their own, are you guys like that, I mean do you have your favorite bands and that’s it or are you constantly searching for good stuff out there?
Scott Wilson:
I’m a little different than the other guys. They tend to have a wider variety of tastes than I do. Theyget mad at me all the time because I hate everything. But I’m totally stuck in the past you know? All the old thrash shit. Every now and then I’ll like a new band but not to often. Like Mastodon, Opeth, Decapitated, and my new absolute favorite shit right now is a band from France called Gojira. I think they just signed to Prosthetic so be on the lookout for that shit. It’s so heavy and just fucking awesome. But maybe musicians only listen to a select few because they are overly critical. I don’t know.

CR: What do you think of the big metalcore movement that is flooding the US?
Scott Wilson:
I fucking hate everything about it. Gimmick shit.

CR: Any change to see you guys over here in Costa Rica sometime soon, at least for vacations, our beaches rule by the way!
Scott Wilson:
Goddamn I hope so. No plans right now. But I’d love to head that way.
