Introduction
Discography

Gore, blood, naked girls and metal…“groovy”, catchy death metal that is… all of this spells nothing more than DEBAUCHERY!

With a sound that might resemble Six Feet Under, but with a lot more complex and elaborate songs this German band (or it can also be refer to as a meat grinder with a sense of rhythm!) delivers that special death metal that can best be described by one word… and one word only…FUN!

So please enjoy as main man Thomas explains what the band and the music is all about!

"Debauchery is about Death Metal and Rock’n’Roll. So that’s what you can exspect. Rock’nRoll and Death Metal with a lot of groove and brutality and blood."

CR: Hey man how are you? How’s Germany these days?
Thomas:
Hi, I’m ok. Weather is shit, rains all day. I like sunshine. The rest is as always, nothing special...

CR: Lets get the obvious out of the way, some reader have never heard Debauchery, could you please let those maggots know what Debauchery is all about, and what should they expect before listening to one of your records?
Thomas:
Debauchery is about Death Metal and Rock’n’Roll. So that’s what you can exspect. Rock’nRoll and Death Metal with a lot of groove and brutality and blood.

CR: When did the new album came out? Was there any released party for it, or did you guys kept it simple?
Thomas:
Yeah we had some release parties and a special release concert here in Germany. Release date was at the 11. of April.

CR: Lets talk about “Continue to kill”, it sounds a bit faster than “Back In Blood”; what would you say is the single most noticeable difference between this record and your previous ones… is there really a difference or just improvements?
Thomas:
Hey, you’ve got it. It’s nothing different just an improvement. I used a deeper tuning for the guitars, the rock songs are more rock and the fast songs are faster. So all in all the record’s got more diversity, more groove and more blast beat.

CR: You got a Slayer cover, and a couple of guest appearances on the record, they pretty much make for an interesting surprise… how many guest musicians would you allow Debauchery to have on an album? Do you think that guests actually enhanced the songs or they are just there for the simple purpose of bringing “rarity” to the tracks?
Thomas:
I think guests are an improvement. I never had a real band and do all recording alone. So the guests are a substitute for other bandmembers. I’m no drummer and for all records I need one, this time it was Tomasz, a good friend of mine, he played with Belphegor for a while. And I’m no guitar solo hero either , and Tom (ex-Primal Fear / Sinner) is exactly what I need. He can play all shit, fast aggressive noise soli and slow and atmospheric. He played the soli for Torture Pit and Back In Blood too. Schmier from Destruction was a little bit of a surprise. He was at the same studio with his other band Headhunter and I just asked him if he would like to scream something for me. I’m a little bit of a Destruction fan and hey, that was great for me. And I like his voice on Warfare very much, it gives some more diversity to the vocal parts.
To the Slayer Cover: I recorded this song for a Tribute sampler, but like it that much that I had put it on Continue To Kill too.

CR: There is a song specially dedicated to “the Debauchery haters”, really a fun track, but don’t you think that perhaps by putting a song like this on the album it gives more reason for critics to thrash talk Debauchery?
Thomas:
Actualy I don’t care. There are allways some haters. But this is my only chance to say them all: FUCK YOU!!! And for all cool people the song is a lot of fun I think.

CR: Debauchery plays and I don’t think there’s any doubt about it… a death metal similar if not equal to what Six Feet Under does over in the US. Do you think this comparison, this idea is fair to you band, and what are the positive aspects of such?
Thomas:
At first I liked it to be compared to SFU. But now I hate it. I do not intend to do the same as SFU and they give me no inspiration. I like what they are doing but I’ve got influences from bands like AC/DC, Rammstein, Manowar and Judas Priest. It is just the voice that brings the comparison all the time. Debauchery has Acoustic guitars, Keyboards and Blastbeat. We rock, SFU rocks too, but also AC/DC, Krokus and Obituary.

CR: You guys have actually played with Six Feet Under right? Did you get any positive feedback from those guys?
Thomas:
I think they like what we do, but we never spoke about that.

CR: I read someplace that some of your inspirations for the songs comes from the Warhammer’s game, is that true? And why do you like that game so much or is it just the title and the history behind it that attracts you?
Thomas:
Yeah it’s all true. I like the game, but the inspiration comes from the backround stories. I like the dark and brutal worlds the Warhammer guys create.

CR: Does Debauchery have a permanent line up, I read someplace that the line up was not yet completed?
Thomas:
I never had a permanent line up. But I will have one from July this year to December next year I think... we will see.
For the Cds I do the recording and songwriting myself, so it’s not too much of a problem.

CR: There seems to be this fascination with gore, blood and naked women, why do you think topics like gore and nudity seem to attract so much people?
Thomas:
Oh, I do not know if it attracts so much people, but I like it.

CR: There are a lot… and I mean a lot of titles, references and the use of the word blood on pretty much every album Debauchery has out there, why is that, and don’t you think that at some point you’ll have to come up with a different word to say blood?
Thomas:
Ah, yes, then I say gore.

CR: Many of your albums contain cover songs from very popular rock bands, Rammstein, AC/DC, Genesis… why do you like to constantly remind listeners that there are other bands and/or music that you like and listen too, because after all doing a cover song means that you like the artist you are portraying right? Children of Bodom did a Britney Spears cover so that pretty much says a lot… I think?
Thomas:
Did they, I don’t know. Have to check this out. I only cover songs I like, but I will play all shit for money of course.
Actualy I have recorded five albums now. On the last one there was a cover bonus CD. It was just a bonus for the fans. That’s all. I do not think I make covers all the time. The Slayer song was made for a Tribute Sampler . Nothing special either. But I like the cover and on the record it’s one song more, that’s more value for the money.

CR: Debauchery has and this is just my opinion of course, a very impeccable album art cover selection, from your first record cover a la “HR Giger”, to “Rage Of The Bloodbeast” that looks like a Dan Seagrave creation; you also have the cover for “Torture Pit” that looks like a cover for Cannibal Corpse, then the half naked girl cover in blood, and now this sort of comic creation for “Continue to kill”… how long do you take to actually pick a cover and who do you trust the most when it comes to either drawing or designing the covers for Debauchery?
Thomas:
Until this time all the cover designs were more or less happenance. I just checked some artists and their prices. Kris Verwimp made three artworks for me and some other guys the rest. This time it’s special. I have asked one of my personal favourites: Adrian Smith. He has done a lot of shit for Games Workshop / Warhammer and I like his works for over ten years now. He made the Continue To Kill cover, the Butcherman in the Digi Pack and the Zombie from the Butcher Of Bitches shirt. He is fucking awesome.

CR: Debauchery has pretty much released an album every single year since your debut back in 2003, except for 2006… what happened that year that we couldn’t enjoy Debauchery release?
Thomas:
I recorded every year I think. But the release dates are sometimes a little bit different. Back In Blood I made in autumn 2006, then I had to find a new label and release was in 2007.

CR: By listening to your discography, it sounds like with every album you guys add more and more “hard rock” inspired segments and solos, the guitars seem to get better on each album (got to admit my favorites come in Torture Pit), what’s the most difficult part of actually writing and album?
Thomas:
I like Hard Rock very much and intend since the first album the same thing. I want a groove monster. Brutal and heavy. But the first time it did not work out how I intended it. Now I’m just better in what I do. And I have some more experience too.
I never had any difficulties in writing an album, only in the end it did not always work out how it was planned.

CR: Many if not most European metal bands, have “day jobs”, do you have a “normal job” aside from music or your life pretty much revolves around it?
Thomas:
Until a week ago I was a student, for the next year I try to earn my money with this metal shit, we will see. If I’m still alive at the end of 2009 it worked.

"You work hard for a record, you give 200 percent for at least half a year, every day, you pay a lot of money to get the best result, your heart and soul is in the new record.....and then some music critic shithead gives your new record five minutes of his time and says it’s crap"

CR: Since you started out playing metal, what’s the most important thing that you have learned and that in your opinion many “non musicians” just don’t understand?
Thomas:
You work hard for a record, you give 200 percent for at least half a year, every day, you pay a lot of money to get the best result, your heart and soul is in the new record.....and then some music critic shithead gives your new record five minutes of his time and says it’s crap. If you do not make records you do understand how I feel in such a situation.

CR: Seen your album covers, the lyrics of Debauchery and of course the song titles, I can pretty safely say that you are a gore movie fan, any particular movie that you can recommend?
Thomas:
Rambo IV and Black Hawk Down.

CR: Some not very smart people and I believe you have those types of people all over the world, claim that metal, inspires young man and woman to kill, rape and commit suicide, what do you have to say to those so called “moral people”.
Thomas:
I do not think someone kills because of metal music, that’s all shit. Someone kills because there are a lot of shitheads who deserve it to die.

CR: Lets picture this scenario, you have a man with a gun to your head, and there is only one way for you to save your life, you have to drink one of two glasses that are placed in front of you; one is full with menstrual blood… and the other one with pus. No matter which one you choose, you have to drink it very slowly… which one would you drink to safe your life? The third option of course is to let the man simply kill you!
Thomas:
I will take both glasses and ram them in the face of the sucker. If he is faster I am dead, if not all the broken pieces will cut out his eyes. When he is blinded I can slowly torture him to death.

CR: Are you planning any sort of tour to promote the new record?
Thomas:
I hope to get one in autumn this year and one in spring next year, we will see.

CR: Well man thank you so much for the opportunity, hope everything goes as plan for you guys with this new album, please if you have anything else to add, do so!
Thomas:
Thank you very much. Blood For The Blood God!!!
