Having absolutely loved “Demoniac Flagellations”, I had some big expectations when Peruvians Anal Vomit announced their second full length… and it finally did. Depravation is not exactly a step forward for the band, in fact and I don’t really know why, they decided to take a couple of steps back on what seemed to be a great future for this black/thrash outfit. The album is fun, is old school is aggressive but it has no memorable moments, no remarkable songs, and not one single sticky riff.

The early Sepultura, Sarcofago and Slayer influences are there, perhaps the Slayer sound has increased this time around, with a faster interpretation from Possessor (Bass and vocals) and more high pitch mayhem screams “adorning” some songs Anal Vomit has tried to go even dirtier in their general sound, completely hiding a bass line that just becomes irrelevant and unexisting as the album progresses; an obscure drum work that even as fun and chaotic as it may sound, looses it’s importance thanks to the bad general leveling of the instrument and some guitar riffs that are just too repetitive from song to song.

The lyrics remain satanic, fun and childish; the way Anal Vomit manages to incorporate Spanish sang lyrics is quite good, they all fit perfectly and create some fun choruses like the one on the intro track “Alcoholocausto”, there are still a lot of English songs, just so our English speaking friends can follow the band a bit closer I presume.

To be totally honest, I expected more, maybe more “memorable” songs, maybe a combination of raw metal with a better sound; all I know is that Depravation is a mediocre record for a band as talented as Anal Vomit; non the less I can almost guarantee that it will make you headbang, because these 33 minutes of music is nothing more than raw metal, and that can never be a bad thing.
