What does it take to write a good black album? To some a lot of references to Satan and a general disgust for Catholics and Jesus off course; to others just a shitty recording and to few some actual song writing skills and ideas; so what do we have here? …Good ideas!
Panama’s Azaroth makes his debut with this nice blend of obscure, melancholic yet very black oriented… melodic black metal (I know I kind of dance around the same words back there!), a sound that could remind some to a certain German band, Agathodaimon, a comparison I believe the can be very well sustained through out the entire production, due to the great amount of involving, almost rock/pop tunes that the album has, and please don’t raise your eyebrows at me for that pop comment, is not that this guys have anything to do with that genre, is just that some segments are so catchy, melodic and easy to follow that it could resemble some of the principles of pop (to be easy to understand and digest), but anyways lets get over that an into the record.
Queen of the Black Moon has some very nice vocal lines, there is no doubt of the black elements on it and the focus of their inspiration, perhaps one of the strongest sides of Azaroth along side the song structure, having keyboards and guitars collaborating to a melodic yet dark base that flows very easily in your ears, I mean is quite simple to catch their tunes and tempos while you appreciate a good keyboard involvement without over doing it, but the bad, what really hurts this album is the ambition without the resources, let me explain a little better, the songs are quite good, but the recording and the levels in which they are arrange should require a better, cleaner production, to put it more simple, some instruments are sort of hidden, some sound to artificial and some need more thickness.
Generally this album would surprise, because of the good amount of new ideas and melodies, setting and example that not only black raw metal can be played in Latin America.
