Maybe not ironic but unfortunate was the fact that as I return to San José from a long awaited trip to Peru, I found this cd from a Lima based band sitting on my mail box, dating the send off exactly the day I arrived to my birth place; maybe they were destine to pay the air mail fee or perhaps the isolation between the artist and the critic is a relationship that should best be kept irrelevant in favor of a more “clear headed” interpretation. Whatever the reasons, that I’m probably overanalyzing, I got a chance to hear a more “European” version of death metal that doesn’t necessarily goes into a common Gothenburg sound, that manages to include some clear and catchy thrash melodies that makes the album interesting but not very memorable.

Nephast Contradiction was the first production of César Gutiérrez, who had to record every instrument by himself due to line up issues; well the version of the album that I’m holding and writing about is the one Gutiérrez decided to re-record with a new line up, with real drums this times (since the first version had programmed drums).

Dehumanizer is a mix of what they described themselves to be, a death/thrash outfit; the death metal been brought on by the vocals mainly and a couple of thick mid tempo riffs, while the obvious thrash riffs come from a lead guitar that despite been accurate and clean lacks of speed and intensity. The essence of this band is creating catchy songs, every piece in this demo has something special… true, everything can be perfected and improved but the core of their music is solid, the song writing sounds clear, fresh and creative the essence of a band is strong on this guys; yet they are lacking of some production guidance (even thou this re-release was said to contain no production what so ever) and to tap into that everlasting vein of anger and speed that could give their catchy riffs a long lasting effect on the listener.
