This is not totally Nu metal, or metalcore, it has a mix of both, and some thrash riffs placed in every song that made me remember the best years of another Argentinean band A.N.I.M.A.L. (this could be because Marcelo Castro is part of Jesus Martyr).

The production of Jesus Martyr is impeccable, nice sound, great volume to every instrument, and that is one of the best things about this release; maybe for all the close minded metal fans out there this is just another Slipknot like band; but they really aren’t, yes they carry some Nu metal groove and riffs, but they manage stay away from the Nu metal sound with some, like I said before thrash riffs (I have nothing against Nu metal), and a very hardcore influenced vocals, and that’s why they sound closer to metalcore meets the new wave of thrash metal than the so stigmatized Nu metal.

Well The JesusMartyr is this Argentineans second full length, a 39 minutes discharge of great drum work, and very catchy guitars, they never get to complicated; maybe the clean vocals are not well placed, they sometimes break the general flow of the music and they are not very well interpreted; but the rest is catchy heavy and nicely placed, a very tight album indeed.

In recent years I have begun to get really bored of underground bands that only play, raw black, brutal death and gore/grindcore… and I mean really bored, is like there is no real talent in our underground scene but a bunch of “evil wanna bees”; off course there are exceptions, we do have great brutal bands, is just that in order to get respect from our metal scene you have to play those styles of metal or you are considered a “sold out”; well that’s why I really enjoyed The JesusMartyr, is something else, is something new and brave if you ask me. So here it is Nu/metalcore/thrash for you from Argentina, enjoy; and remember if you are close minded, go back to bands with long chirurgical names that can only play one style and that don’t really need so many chords on their guitars.
