All it takes are 30 seconds from the first track to get hooked with Karma. This Brazilian progressive metal band has created a very catchy, well played and amazingly memorable album in Leave Now!!!
Every song is different from each other; Thiago Bianchi’s vocals go from power metal, to hard rock in the right places at the right times and the guitars, like any other progressive act are complex and interesting, without becoming pretentious and over the top.
Leave Now!!! Has a very good mix of keyboards and atmospheric effects that really manage to increase the value of every song. The mix did a great job by making every instrument sound clear, and placing emphasis in the one that can lead the way to a better understanding of the songs.
The album begins with a very powerful song that carry the same title as the album; you can hear some electronic sounds and some great guitar solos, a very nice piece that welcomes you to the world created by Karma. Crawl follows with some heavy guitar riffs and very catchy chorus; Life… is a song that for some reason sounds more nu metal than progressive to me, but done in a way that really shows you that maybe nu metal if done the right way, could be a good genre after all. Older, slows things up a little, introducing the ballad side of the band, and from there on the songs vary from progressive to hard rock to some more ballads. To me the album is just too long, maybe is just my predilection for 45 minute records, but the songs even though they are different from each other they are just too many, maybe if the record just had 12 songs instead of 14 it will be a little more entertaining.
Karma is one of those bands whose members are clearly talented, still they don’t let this go to their heads, and they manage to write very solid songs, very complex songs, without forgetting that music should be fun.
