I was very exited to hear this album for the first time, finally Costa Rica has a death metal band that wants to do things the right way; not only play gore or grindcore because those genres seem to be the favorites among our underground bands; nothing wrong with liking gore or brutal death metal, they are cool genres, is just that everybody in this country thinks they can do it, and some of them…well they just cant, death metal is more than playing as heavy and fast as you can and writing about rapes and shit.

First things first, this band sounds way better live than in this demo, Ignacio Blanco is a great drummer, sadly the sound of this record doesn’t let you appreciate his potential to the max. Let me see… Katharzys reminded me of old Vader, a little Krisiun thrown in the mix perhaps, a sort of old school Euro death metal with some up to date tempo changes and very catchy aggressive rhythms. The vocals are great, deep growls raging on every song Esteban Monestel really can reach the most aggressive sounds and make it sound so natural.

Shit I would have love to hear this record with a better production, it will have been amazing; the riffs are heavy, sharp, precise and honestly they get you into Katharzys as soon as you listen to them.

The sound like many underground bands is not the best, I mean you can hear everything on the record, every single instrument, so maybe is the mixing of the album that relegated the drums to a way far back position. Jonathan Sanchéz and Sergio Rosales mix guitars by playing some monotonous but very catchy and heavy riffs and some great solos that intervene at the right. There is really great death metal on this album, worthy of anybody that loves true death. Ok so let’s go song by song.

Intro, well its just that, and actually I really hate intro tracks that don’t give you anything at all, some atmospheric sounds, for a couple of seconds and then the album, it kind of fool you to believe that there are actually six songs on this record, when actually there are just 5; besides the intro track has a way better sound that the actual album, so it hurts the band because you expect the same quality that the first track suggests.

Last Circumstance, with a relentless drum work and some nice solos the song is catchy, is powerful and it brings all the darkness and aggressiveness Katharzys can perform; the main riffs are quite simple but extremely likeable, Last Circumstance has some tempo changes that go from mid tempo death to a more rapid attack.

Tower of flames, fast death delivered by raging growls, great drums but maybe Ignacio needs to think on better ways to deliver speed and power (Hey I’m no drummer, but it will be nice to see this kid explore other options knowing just how talented he is); again the solos take this track to a new level.

Predestination, by this track you will probably have already hit your head against the wall thanks to all the head banging, the groove on this song reminds me of old Vader like I said before; I think is the guitars exchanging times and blending to precision with the vocals, or maybe is the solos displaying sharpness just like a death metal band should.

Black Moon, Katharzys gets a nice riff going and suddenly they change it on you, making the song a surprise on every note, Black Moon also includes some groove moments that reestablish the way the song was been delivered; maybe it sounds like they took three different songs and mix then together to create this piece.

Stronger than fear, for some reason the drums sound a little better on this final track, and off course Ignacio blows your mind with some quick interventions adding speed to the track, again the vocals are solid, and the guitars, excellent.

Katharzys comes to show us and to the entire Costarrican metal scene that you need talent to make good death metal, not just anger; I can see a great future for this band, I hope that soon we could hear the news that a major label has signed them, they have the talent to do so as well as the hunger.
