I couldn’t think of a better intro for this album, a rainy day, some lighting on the background, just like it is over here in San Jose during this time of year, gray skies and thousands of people sneezing everywhere.

Mandragora is a thrash band with heavy metal vocals, and off course some very melodic at times hard rock guitars that blend to achieve a fast yet “groovy” sound; from time to time it may remind you of some old Anthrax work.

The lyrics are all in Spanish in this album (a nice change of pace in my humble opinion), they all posses a very heavy social message like the track “500 años” a song about the situation of our aborigines, quite catchy I may add; or the song “Grita América” a song with demolishing drum work and a some guitar solo segments that capture the great technicality this band posses…oh yeah the lyrics are about the raise of the American people against oppression. To review the lyrics as a whole I will have to say that they are all about fighting oppression, injustice and the recognition of our culture as a proud and worthy thing to honor.

Viscion is short in length but big in content and technical display; the guitars are tight and the solos are nice, not jaw dropping but definitely they add a greater array of interpretation to each song. The drums are probably the most outstanding feature in this full length of only 40 minutes, (maybe a little more or less since my winamp player register the album with just 36 minutes of length but the album data indicates it last over 46 minutes); I’m not at all a fan of the vocals on this record, they just sound like every other heavy metal Spanish speaking based band, but hey that is just a matter of taste, some love that sort of thing, I only wished they used a deeper singer, again that’s just my opinion and annoying suggestion.

The best track on this record is “Juicio Final” no doubt about that, great guitars, awesome performance by the drums, nice timing on the tempo changes and a catchy groove that remains aggressive at all times. If you like thrash metal with heavy vocals, then this is the album for you…every time I listen to Viscion it just sounds so Anthrax!
