This album had potential… a lot of potential, classic raw black squeals and a couple of atmospheric sounds trying to approach symphonic sounds; but Morbid Funeral had to go and place a really crappie female singer trying to reach notes she can’t reach; but thank god they didn't include her in every song, because if they had this record will have sucked big time.
So, the record starts strong, right in your face with some fake as hell drums, and a constant but catchy riff, not a bad track, is just that the album is mostly based on raw black, and the drum sound is way too artificial to fit that dark atmosphere some songs create, they also destroy the symphonic sounds that really give Morbid Funeral an identity.
Black Sunset has some hard rock guitars on it, at least at the beginning of the track, providing a nice groove that keeps growing into a dark fierce riff that ends up catching your total attention; the tempo changes really help you deal with this track since its a little over 8 minutes long. Way back in the song you can hear some keyboards that try to create a lugubrious environment that end on some male clean vocals, quite good really, too bad the sound doesn’t let you fully appreciate that segment of this track; some guitar soloing its placed almost at the end of the track, just to introduce the final 30 seconds of really catchy music.
Land Of Silent Sorrow, this is the best song on the album, good guitars, adequate vocals, but again the drums fuck everything up, too plastic, too fake, ok they just don’t sound like the real thing, maybe with a real aggressive drummer this song could have been great.
…And A Black Rose, the song has a beautiful, sorrow beginning but then disaster strikes, SHE starts to sing, early on her segment you can tell she’s not going to make it, and suddenly she tries to reach a note, and… my god what the fuck is that, she’s bad, she’s really bad, the whole song goes to hell, because of her (don’t know her name, thank god for that), the rest of the song, with out the female vocals is great, inspired guitars displaying almost heavy metal solos, and a rhythm that catches you for instants until she sings again… god its just mean to have to listen to her.
After the disaster of the previous song, it appears that the guys from Morbid Funeral wanted a more raw approach to finish you off, incorporating again some atmospheric sounds and a slow guitar section, here the male clean vocals appear and transport you into a dark corner of your mind.
This could have been a good record, even if the production was bad, because the riffs are interesting and well placed, is just that the fake drums and the appearance of the female vocals ruined this for me.
