If you were looking for some raw death metal… you found it! Protocol of Mummification is an obscure and brutal mini cd, perfect for a hungry underground scene.

Protocol of Mummification is a seven track piece of brutality full of growls and a couple of atmospheric sounds that create a sort of gore movie that you have to see even when it gets too fucking brutal.

The record begins with and intro track that for some reason makes me feel inside one of those abandoned houses were a gruesome murder took place many years ago; Obliteration Through Annihilation begins with the same atmospheric sounds as the intro track, a couple of seconds into the song, the deep growls make their appearance disturbing everything around it; this is the longest song in the entire record with 7:10 minutes, it has a couple of tempo changes due to the extension of the song but the mid tempo structure prevails. Track 3 get things running a little faster; with some fast drum work and a mean guitar riff; still the vocal part is the one that catches your attention because is placed over everything else. Betrothed Zombification is probably the best track in the record; it has speed, brutality and a catchy rhythm that really make it stand out from the rest, I’m not crazy about the back vocals they use thought out the album but at some points it manages to complete the whole vocal side giving it a little more variety.

Humble Tribute to Albert Fish is a good track; with some groove placed into the mix and the same mean guitar riffs. For some reason Betrothed Zombification, Humble Tribute to Albert Fish and Porno Slut Gore, have the same groove, a very different rhythm than the first two tracks, and that’s good, this three songs sound like a totally different album.

There is one thing that really bothered me, and that was the mixing of the album, I understand that the vocal part is very important but in Protocol of Mummification the vocals don’t really let you hear the guitars or even the drums, and there are some good riffs that really should have had more volume.

This is a good mini cd, good for the underground scene, it shows that Mummified has a good idea; they just need a better production and mixing advisors.
