Good old school thrash! Necrolisis along side Eternal are bringing thrash back to our Costarrican metal ears, and even when they also appeal to our love for the old school sound of the 80’s, they are a bit different from Eternal. Necrolisis is more primitive, simpler yet catchy and for some reason they sound a bit more “old school” than their comrades! (This could just be the effect of an extremely raw production, but I’ll let you be the judge of that)
This Turrialba band decided to take a different approach in this demo, instead of “invoking” the old bay area thrash scene of the US they went for a more “German Destruction/Kreator” type of sound; fast, indiscriminate riffs escorted by catchy tunes, and slashing screams (still it is impossible to escape those early Dark Angel riffs!!). Yes there are solos, but these ones are almost as fast as all the songs; these guys just don’t stop for a minute, the whole demo is a quick stab in the stomach.
One of the great things about this record is the way Sergio makes the Spanish lyrics fit perfectly on every single song, they don’t sound artificial or forced into them, they are well written and well placed, something very difficult to find on bands that sing in Spanish.
Despite the aggressive, primitive sound Necrolisis tries to emphasize on, they do know how to twist a riff here and there; just pay a closer listen to the instrumental track on the album, the guitars are quite good, great melodies full of spontaneity and some solid technical aspects, Necrolisis do know how to play their instruments!
Overall a nice “retro” album, worthy of your time and money, and this is one of those productions that after a couple of listens it begins to start climbing your favorites chart.
