Brazilian Torture Squad debut with this record, displaying and interesting but at times mediocre blend of thrash/death metal, the band has a good idea in all the tempo changes apply to this production, the problem lies on the mid tempo death segments that become boring after many repetitions.
The intro track “Torture Till Die” is a good example of what the entire record will deliver, some fast segments of thrash drums and heavy yet not very punishing guitars (in some places they say that this album has lyrics, well in the copy that I have, there are no lyrics), “Criminal Brutality” has a very promising intro, fast and energetic, I don’t want to sound like all I like is speed, but sometimes when you combine tempo changes that produce a different “feeling” on the listener you are bound to have two of the following reactions, 1. People will love the slow parts and even think that the band is incredible by slowing down the tempo and 2. Is going to bore the hell out of your listener if where the tempo decreases its intensity is just one huge void with no point, and that’s what happens on “Shivering” many songs have a nice thing going when suddenly the tempo changes and the energy goes away been replaced by some slumber of mid tempo death metal interpretations that really don’t give any depth or character to the songs.
“Suffocation” like all the other tracks begins with creating a nice rapid attack, just to plump at the end in a monotonous riff that may fool you at first in believing that they are actually building another thrash attack on you, but they end up been just an excuse for the duration of the track.
The album has good segments that perhaps would have make this record stand the test of time, but all the amount of unnecessary and boring segments make it a good start for the band but not a good album.
