There are sounds that never get old, as a matter of fact they just become more attractive over time, and this is exactly the case with the sound Violent Attack is portraying on this 2006 debut.
That early 80’s evil, thrash sound that Venom learned how to present and play is very well kept alive in “The Final Massacre”; raw production, fast guitars, catchy tunes and an incredible “heaviness” floats all over this Paraguayan band. The great thing about the album is the honest display of old school thrash, there are no synthetic, modern sounds that try to blend with the straight forward guitar; its just the riffs and the faded back vocals of The Attacker the ones creating remarkable and memorable songs all over this album.
To a few the songs might be full of clichés, but that just makes it more attractive to me, like the use of prolonged song ending screams, the war related lyrics, segments of guitar solos with that very peculiar tuning that thrash bands use, the endless use of words like “violent” “destruction” and “metal”, and the perfect placement of chorus very easy to remember and scream, you know the usual with any self respected thrash band.
Running a little over 37 minutes The Final Massacre does so many things right and captures the essence of an era that many thought forgotten and dead; and yes is true that at first listen the album is going to sound like many other bands from the 80’s, but like the good bands from the 80’s so there really can be many complains about that, and is not like they copy and pasted the riffs and the lyrics, is just that this guys are sticking to a simple format of playing thrash that has resulted in an exceptional look at the past that can be enjoyed today.
