You cannot really judge a band just by listening to a live performance, more true is this if the band is from Latin America, why? Most Europeans and US bands have way better venues and equipment where they record the show, and sadly but most… not all but most of our bands still play in the extreme underground atmosphere, and not only media wise underground, but equipment wise, service wise underground, hell a band here in Costa Rica is very lucky to find a decent sound engineer and equipment for their shows. I think that’s why our music is still so raw, so true and for a lack of a better word… so metal.

Having heard and read some amazing things about this Peruvian outfit I engaged this record with high expectations, and more so after listening and loving Anal Vomit another Peruvian black/death band.

The disappointment of this band is not the fact that I was expecting something more authentic that would open my eyes to something new an excitement; the disappointment came from the extremely unorganized way of playing the songs, from the perfect example of a band that sacrifices melody, structure and plain reasonable thinking for a more raw and brutal approach; still Goat Semen which name is pretty cool by the way, does have some moments of true black attitude and death riffs that may it tolerable; still you must remember that the entire album was recorded live and by the sound of it, it had no more arrangements than the ones done in the show back in 2003.

There are brutal, raw bands like Sarcofago and Chilenean Ammit, that play or sort of “control mayhem”, as a modern example Ammit be do better for my intentions at this moment, bands that yes dwell in the whole black metal attitude and crude sound, but behind all this you can perceived the riffs and the melodies, something that Goat Semen may have forgotten, but like I said at the beginning, this is just a live album, and yes I would give this guys a second chance when their debut full length comes out.
