First off, I’m pretty sure now that the best productions in Central America come from El Salvador bands, and I mean album production, sound quality, mixing… you know the works, Digital Metal Flesh sounds clean, sounds professional, and that is because it was recorded in Cursed Studios (Finland), so to get off this topic, Digital Metal Flesh is a top rated recording job.
Let’s get into the music now, yes the band description pretty much captures the essence of this their third album “industrial death metal”; it’s not like the album has a huge amount of electronic sounds or atmospheres around every song, no they tend to blend into every song quite nicely, without diminishing the death metal rhythms, or minimizing the nice typical underground impossible to decipher death growl, no, they are placed pretty much as a layer over the guitars making them sound more metallic and sharp; yes there are some songs that try to incorporate a bit more “electronic” sounds into the mix, but they never really take off like in “Paradoxical autonomy” just a couple of seconds in the background, not much really.
The biggest strength of the album is perhaps their greatest flaw; Raices Torcidas (Twisted Roots in English) plays a very straight forward death metal, strong guttural vocals and heavy riffs, very few memorable moments, just a continue attack on your senses, but there is were the problem lies, the lack of variation between songs can and becomes exhausting for the listener, despite the nice sound, they decided to keep the drums sounding extremely amateur and in the background, there is a lack of explosion from them, something that really would have given the songs a bit more depth; perhaps one of the few songs that actually tries to mix things up a little is “Mechanical nemesis” trying to switch between tempos a couple of times, as well as the sort of technical “Infinite cycle” one of the few tracks that may stay in your conscious for more than an hour.
Overall Digital Metal Flesh sounds good and it has that overall brutal sound that die hard death metal fans are looking for, sadly it doesn’t have songs that can stand by themselves as time goes by, still a pretty good death record.
