Some bands, many bands decide to play brutal death because they like it and because that’s pretty much all they can play, I know it sounds condescending and sort of an asshole comment, but to many underground bands this theory applies, replacing music skills with intensity, speed and sick lyrics… but I guess that’s part of the beauty of brutal death.

Trepanador is a Peruvian death act that gets things done always playing inside the norm of aggressiveness and catchy flows of tempo; speeding things up when the songs need to and diminishing the tempo to introduce some catchy riffs and a few memorable vocals. The best example of this is the unforgettable “Clavos en tu Cruz” (Nails in your cross), with a mid paced tempo the riffs stream easily into your ears bringing a sort of hidden energy that you would expect of a much faster track, the production even thou it could have been better, is still pretty decent, maybe the drums sound a bit, just a bit hidden, still you manage to hear them pretty clearly, maybe it was the balance of this instrument in comparison with the vocals and the guitar that have as they should a predominant role.

Another great song is the final “Gritos de Guerra” (War cries) with a dual side to it, been one of them a mid tempo catchy very “Swedish death metal” and the other one bringing more speed and focusing a bit more on the total annihilation of your ears through fast and brutal riffs.

Trepanador shows talent and a good clear idea of how they construct and perform their brutal death, never forgetting that it is musicianship what has to always be first; before the brutality and the image of brutality, it has to be first about the music.
