There is something very “seductive” about early thrash metal, those easy, catchy, memorable riffs stick to your mind as easily as they did the first time you notice bands like Metallica, Exodus and Dark Angel. That same ear catching “symphony” is present in Colombia’s very own Witchtrap, portraying perhaps a retro sound worthy of Hellhammer or even early Celtic Frost… I know I just mention more than 4 bands to try and accommodate the sound of this band, but if you pay close attention to “No Anesthesia” you’ll be able to find some traces of the previous bands mention.

The simplicity and rawness of all the songs and a clean enough production transform this album into more than your typical “tribute to the 80’s” thrash band, and make you recalibrate what thrash is all about and why some just get mad when bands like Trivium are mention within this noble genre.

Witchtrap really paid attention to those early masters, maybe sometimes to a point of almost “copycat” detail, but the results are masterful and refreshing, providing a solid corner stone to all of their songs and an unforgettable groove and melody that after all is what music is all about. Their solos following a mid tempo riffing, the outstanding vocal work from Burning Axe Ripper (even the names are sort of old school), the basic yet solid drum performance enhances the segments in which you are supposed to be heavy, perhaps the only detail they forgot to include or maybe they tought about it but todays “attention span” really has diminished so their track are no longer than 4 minutes, excluding the final 7 minute piece, just to show that they do know how it was done some years ago.

“No Anesthesia” is for thrashers, but not for thrashers only, since the songs are so easy to understand and follow this could be a record for anybody that call him/herself a metalhead.
