It is official (even when the main stream magazines don’t really acknowledge it) THRASH IS BACK!!! This undying style that pretty much helped spawned all other extreme metal genres is back in full force; and is not like it ever went away or that it was brought back thanks to the early founders (who are actually the ones that almost killed it… just listen to Metallica now!!!); as it was borne is been reconstructed, by a huge number of young bands that understand what real thrash is supposed to be like… I haven’t heard so many quality bands and albums since the mid 80´s. And this year a huge flow of new bands have overwhelmed me with their productions, one of them is Audiopain.
Yes the names and phrases are pretty cliché, like “Hellbound”, “Alliance” and the weird but never forgotten song with a title in reference to some vicious animal “Cobra Dance”; and that is just part of the great appeal “The Switch To Turn Off Mankind” has, because if you had to describe their thrash you’ll have to say, these Norwegians sound like a crossbreed between Destruction and Slayer… and yes they sound as good as that infernos reference is!
There is darkness, a deep and troubling murky aura covering every layer and every corner of the album, is like a pagan black metal band had spill some satanic and paranoid atmospheres into this nice old school thrash transforming it into this fast and insidious thrash creature.
Audiopain has the best elements from the past, and manages to include some new and dark sounds that morph the production into a nice progression for the genre without loosing the best riffs thrash has to offer. It will be a bit unfair to mention one song over the rest but Alliance has perhaps the most memorable and familiar thrash “groove” on the album, but believe me every song is a single in here!
