Perhaps there is nothing original or surprising in the way Azarath delivers its death blacked metal, but sometimes simplicity and pure fury can save an album even when the riffs are recycled many times.
Is not as if this polish band lacks on talent, as their line up can be envy by many, with Behemoth’s drum tank Inferno or Damnation’s Bruno spewing hatred all over the tracks; Azarath has more than enough talent to put a decent amount of riffs for any album to sound capable and competitive, and they did just that, didn’t really push the envelop but managed to write one solid, brutal and hellish record that will satisfy anybody’s appetite for pure destruction in their music.
The songs are dark, mysterious and full of hate, with “classic” blasphemic titles such as “Baptized in Sperm of the Antichrist” or “Intoxicated by Goat Vomit” you can only expect an album full of blastbeats and fast guitars that will not joke around much and will deliver some fast heavy as fuck metal… and guess what? They deliver, in a solid… massive performance by Inferno keeping everything speedy and heavy (and yes I will continue to write the word heavy since this album is one of the best description of what that word means in metal!) while the guitars follow a familiar, simplistic path that carries a good enough tune for us to headbang while we wonder why having a bass when Inferno doesn’t let anything else sound as thick as he does?
“Diabolic Impious Evil” is a sort of “formation” or better yet a training manual for all of those that want to know what happens when extreme death metal uses black metal ideology and hate, it produces a volatile mix of energy and darkness that appeals to all extreme metal fans.
