A nice mix of modern and classic heavy metal comes in a rather small package; “Tales of Doom chapter I” is part of a trilogy of EP’s that Portland, Oregon's Babylon will be releasing.
The songs are really a quick visit to the spirit of heavy metal, going through all stages of developing in just two songs (since the first one is just a nice atmospheric intro); I know it sounds like an exaggeration, to say ALL stages of heavy metal development, but you have to heard it to understand it.
The second track Reach For The Sun, is a classic heavy metal track with some traces of aggressiveness that resemble a power metal band; Bryce Van Patten singer, drummer and keyboards, show us a powerful drum work; his vocals are kind of hard to get use to, they are rough but yet melodic and deep, really not your average heavy singer.
St. Crispen's Day has that nice epic feeling we all love in our power metal; Van Patten sounds from time to time like Rob Halford, and the guitar solos are very clean and talented.
Why a 6.0? Well because two songs and an intro are not really an EP, the songs are nice, but its just two little, the album ends too fast and forces you to listen to it again not because you loved what you heard, but because it passes you by like a comet; any way I’m really looking forward to their next two EPs so that I can put them all together and listen to a full length album that way.
