The single Fly early this year created a huge expectation towards this album, and guess what? Blind Guardian delivered, and by God did they delivered a great album in A Twist in the Myth.

The album starts with a furious track, well at least furious for the kind of melodic power metal these Germans play, “This Will Never End” is fast, heavy and has the perfect amount of hooks to keep you on your toes until the next track begins; “Otherland” is a little closer to what I was used to hear from Blind Guardian, a bit epic, catchy and extremely melodic, certainly the trademark sound of the band, but don’t misunderstand me, still the track within this album is a change of pace, and that’s precisely what’s so good about the record, it never gets boring, all the songs are an individual creation.

“Turn the Page” is a “folkier” song, very medieval power metal, once again this track changes completely the sound brought by the previous song but still maintaining that Blind Guardian smell on every riff, so we can say, “it’s different but sounds similar” weird I know but the thing is that the individualism of every song is very real still they all relate to one another with precision. “Fly” the seductive song from the single, this for me is the best song on the album, a Rock ‘N Roll song with a very distinctive guitar effect and an awesome chorus, I promise you that after just one listen you too will be singing along Hansi, by the way Blind Guardian’s front man performs to perfection on this album, really one of the best melodic vocals in metal.

I could go on track by track describing to you all the changes the band makes on each section, but it’s just too much, just like I said at the beginning every song has a character some may bore you, some may speed you up, but the important thing is that in every track you’ll find a new sound, a new element that enhances the idea behind the song, and that’s precisely what makes this album one of the best releases for this 2006, the continues exploration and creativity displayed all over it’s 11 tracks, great album, get it now!!!
