From the first track on, you can tell this will not be your regular death metal album; awesome guitars with a very particular effect that makes every tune sharper and more permanent.
With Mikael Åkerfeldt on vocals, Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström on Guitars, Jonas Renske on Bass and Dan Swanö on Drums you can’t go wrong; just by mentioning this names together you get an immediate reaction.
Resurrection Through Carnage is exactly what a death metal album should be, great riffs, powerful drum work, precise bass, and the deepest growls you can imagine, I mean I don’t even know why Åkerfeldt isn’t mention as one of the best death metal voices ever. Every song has a creepy groove that puts chills down your spine, and they manage to exploit Åkerfeldt’s vocals to the max, leaving no room for lame songs. Buried By The Dead is one of the grooviest death metal tracks ever, this track reminds me so much of Six Feet Under, the groove at least, because the riffs are way more complicated and engaging that the American band.
If you wanted solos, Bloodbath has them too, perfectly emplaced into tracks like “The Soulcollector” a song fill with…yes killer riffs and a catchy vocal line. Perhaps all the diversity that you can find and like in death metal is at some point addressed by this album, like in Bathe In Blood, a song with jaw dropping tempo changes and melodies that go from totally insane and fast to groovy and catchy as hell.
Like I said in the beginning, the factor that will come out and kick you in the balls is the distinctive effect placed in the guitars and the bass, simply genius!
