Thrash metal, mix in with a little hardcore in the voice and a couple of death metal tunes…got it, well I didn’t. Again then, this is a good record, but is easier to compared it so that I and you can understand better what exactly are we talking about here, Carnal Forge is very similar to what The Haunted used to be in the early years.
Ok getting a little deeper into the album and stepping away from that comparison that has…well Haunted the band for many years, this Swedish band presents us their new material in Are you dead yet? This record is very to the point, not a complicated work, just good old head banging riffs in this one, the lyrics are about anger and personal problems, the singer Jonas Kjellgren (right now the singer is Jens C. Mortensen) does a good job in every growl and scream, he’s one of the pillars of the band, and also one of the point of most comparison to The Haunted.
You can definitely hear the Slayer influences the band has in their music through out the entire record (This is a good thing), but in several attempts Carnal Forge fail to establish one song to be the one carrying all their force but the one that got closer was “Burn them alive” (this is the bad thing).
The production is very good and that’s thanks to a record label like Century Media, but is not out of this world. The record is good, is fast, is aggressive and you begin to ask yourself “how is it that I have never heard them before?” but after the whole 35 minutes of playing time, there inst one single song that makes you go back and listen to the album again.
