If you want to get into Dismember and don’t have much time to “digest” some of their material, this is the album for you; first lets get the obvious out of the way, this is not Dismember’s best, or the album that displays all of their peculiar riffs; but this is perhaps their most “accessible” album.
This was Dismember’s last album with Nuclear Blast, and maybe all the problems with their record label actually made this album so unique, some say that Dismember sounds tired on Hate Campaign or that the album was completed just to get rid of the contract hanging over their heads; but for me it’s just different, is catchier, groovier.
Here you find a more paced Dismember, not as fast and aggressive as their previous and next albums, but for some reason the diminishment in speed and aggression brought some groove in many songs that was and is lacking in their other productions.
The distinctive Maiden made death riffs are there, some solos are sharp razors, and Matti’s vocals are held down just a bit, maybe that’s the most negative thing on the album, but for the most part this record will help those non familiar with the band get into every single song and prepare them to face some of their best material like “Like An Ever Flowing Stream” or “Where Ironcrosses Grow”.
Some remarkable songs worthy of any metalhead playlist are Beyond Good And Evil and Patrol 17, two of the catchiest songs ever written by this great band; like I said in the beginning, if you haven’t heard Dismember, this is a great album to start; but if you are a fan already, you are probably just going to skip this and get into their faster more aggressive material, any way, an album worth checking out.
