The only real problem with Ektomorf is the existence of Max Cavalera, if it wasn’t for the Brazilian and his solo project Soulfly (lets face it Soulfly is a solo project, with Max changing musicians very album) this Hungarians will be receiving way more attention and maybe touring the world! The problem is that they sound, play and even look in some of their pictures at every single Cavalera thing ever done, well not everything, they sort of excluded his now forgotten years with Sepultura (his best by the way!).
So what is so different from this guys and other tribute bands like…let say Trivium! Well this guys not only copy Cavalera and his Soulfly riffs but they improve them, yes still this sounds like a very good Soulfly album, with the tribal instruments introduced at some point, just check out (Who Can I Trust (Prayer)) but at least it sounds better. I have to admit I had fun with the album is catchy, simple, very basic yet memorable.
The low rating applies only for the following principle, when a record company not only endorses but bases it’s entire visual promotion on the fact that a band sounds identical to another financial success; it is obvious that they don’t care about the music or the principle of keeping metal true and combatant; they are just following pop’s example and selling a prefabricated product that will give them high earnings for low creative expenditures; and yes the guys on the band have to know that they sound just like Soulfly, hell even the producers know that, they were probably listening to previous Soulfly albums before actually recording this one. Please do them a favor and stay away from this album, so that the fact that ripping off another band didn’t sell will teach this guys and the label a good lessons, invest in talent… so disappointed in Nuclear Blast really… and yes Roadrunners is the same thing!
