What’s the difference between brutal death metal and gore death metal? Is there really a difference or just ways of describing the speed and lyrical content of a death metal band? Ok for the purpose of this review we’ll just say that brutal death metal is faster and has few tempo variations while gore death metal is just death metal with… gore lyrics. So where does Enthrallment belongs? None I’ll say, they are just a death metal band that flirts with both but never really compromises the good old school death metal sound just to sound “meaner” a proof of that is the very catchy “Mutant” a nice mix of Cannibal Corpse brutality with the militaristic and melodic death sound of Bolt Thrower (mainly in the drums) to me the best track on the album, because of the variety in the tempos and the overall catchiness (I don’t know if I’m making up words here!).

I can heard the reason why every single other review about Smashed Brain Collection compares them to early Cannibal, not just because of the speed of their songs, but I mean with a name like “Smashed Brain Collection” it’s hard not to do so; is hard not to decipher the sound of many if not all bands that use either gore picture or gore cartoons.

Enthrallment lacks of an overall central idea, it sounds disperse from time to time switching back and forth from fast brutal death metal and a mid tempo slumber that is not utilize to emphasize perhaps a darker approach or to develop some sort of anticipation on the listener towards the fast and groovy bits of the album, this last two definitely their best asset through out this 30 minute album.

Smashed Brain Collection is a good death metal album, it could have sounded better but for some reason the bass line is placed on top of everything making it sound a bit rough on the segment that should carry more grove than brutality a job very well done by the drums and the great guttural growls, none the less Enthrallment does a great job on deploying some catchy yet brutal tracks, worthy of a good head bang session.
