For those who seek a frontal, direct and menacing stance against Christianity, Grimbane will provide some nice and thoughtful ideas in how to pursue a conscious defiance on one of the world’s most popular religions. Apart from that and despite a clear production there is nothing exiting or interesting on “Let the Empires Fall”.

One can invoke bands such as Marduk, Immortal, DarkThrone, and you can pretty much get an idea on what this whole album is about…just picture those other bands with a better production, and the exact same amount of blast beats; the only difference is that those European counterparts, helped shape a scene, and where not just following a formula.

The anti-Christian messages put forward by the band might not surprise you, but they are feature not as a simple as “fuck Jesus” or “rape the virgin Mary”, they have a context of ideas behind them, something like I said earlier, that puts some weight into the affirmation that Christianity is nothing more than a decease. This doesn’t mean either that these guys are scholars on the topic, but it is nice to see some honest and clever way to reject the church. Sadly they decided to include this “ideas” as a sort of intro for every single song, I don’t understand the need to cut a single segment of spoken English from a song an call it an Intro.

Let the Empires Fall deserves a 7 on the ranting for its lack of “memorable” moments, and the repetitive nature of the song structure; maybe Cauldron of Burning Iron is one of the few songs that dares to go a step beyond your standard black metal riff and there for it gives us a tiny idea on what these guys are capable of; so until they decide to give up on following what some European bands did during the golden era of black metal, Grimbane is just another black metal band that will go unnoticed.
