Picture this, a futuristic iron factory, something taken out of those documentaries about the industrial revolution and then mixed with a movie like I-Robot… can you see it? Well if not let me paint you a much clearer picture; industrial metal with modernized black vocals and a frenetic pace that makes your nose bleed after a couple of tracks… can you heard it now?

H.I.V is not a fun album, or even a deep one (I say this without reading the lyrics so I might be wrong here!) but it is heavy, is acid and frenetic, with a couple of ideas that go beyond the synthesizer sounds; with a good use of ambiance and a projection into a cold technicality that lacks of a noticeable variation as the songs fly by without actually impacting you for a single riffs or “beat” instead there is a feeling of acceleration and heaviness that remains, as long as the song “Ignoratio Elenchi” when the band realized they needed to give the listener a break.

There are points or songs to put it better that show some “Meshuggah” likeness, because of all the layers of sounds and the non traditional tempos display, with the gigantic difference in the drums off course, I think the best example of this will be “When Snuff is No Longer Enough” a track that has an amazing segment in which somebody that reminds me of the Kubrick movie “Dr. Strangelove” talks about Christianity, great accent!

Like I mention earlier there is a song that tries to “demonstrate” that this band has a progressive, melodic side that goes beyond the industrial sounds display in H.I.V, and that is “Ignoratio Elenchi” a great song really, it sound like a nice doom/goth track with industrial steroids. Havoc Unit even experiments a little with rap in Kill All Nations, quite an amusing track but nothing grandiose really.

The problem with the album is the arrangement of the songs, and the timing for the inclusion of those more “organic” or progressive tracks that will have made the album a bit more fun to listen, other than having to hear for 9 tracks the same idea to suddenly start adding fresh riffs.

Havoc Unit sounds good, they just need to “explore” a bit more those interesting ideas they had on track like Ignoratio Elenchi, When Snuff is No Longer Enough and Kill All Nations.
