The beginning of this record is just amazing, with a phrase from a movie that must be a band favorite, Shadows and Dust starts with an explosion in your ears, bringing all that fierce Canadian death metal to your world. The riffs on this production capture you from the start with their brutality and speed, after listening to just the first song you can’t wait to listen to the rest of the album. Every song after the first one is a packed with aggressiveness and a special sound that makes the band stand out from any other one in their genre.

The best thing about this record is not just the quality of death metal presented here, is a simple fact that many death metal bands forget, Kataklysm have created an album that doesn’t repeat it self after listening to one or two songs, every song is different so its never boring and it keeps you listening track after track; there is of course moments in which the band reminds you of Slayer or Dismember, but just remind you of them never resemble or copy those styles, there are also a couple of moments in which you can hear some thrash riffs and some heavy metal tunes, but the intensity and authenticity of the band is never compromise by their influences.

The only not so great thing about the record is that there are some times when Maurizio Iacono’s voice doesn’t get were is supposed to go, but only a couple of times, nothing that could affect the overall performance of the album, to resume…Buy the record!
