Very nicely has Lord Belial managed to include a progression, an unquestionable maturity on The 7th Seal, unfortunately… it just bored the crap out of me! Ok so that comment wasn’t very professional; let me explain: Lord Belial plays in this their 7th studio album (their last 5 were all recorded at Los Angered Recordings) a sort of doom-black with tiny death influences ala Dissection sort of way but not as fast or thick. To those of you who are familiar with the band there isn’t much of a “change” from their previous albums, maybe 7th Seal is slower than Nocturnal Beast and it does have more “melodic” passages and clean vocals than most of their previous records, but despite this characteristics which in paper sound more than appealing to me; in practice, the Swedes just don’t deliver a good, interesting album.
Revelation does have a couple of memorable moments, in which their mellow guitars appear to be interesting, and even encourage the listener to stay for one more track, sadly the slow pace of the tempos start to get a little overdone mainly after the best songs have passed by, like the great “Aghast” with an amazing melodic death metal guitar line (Ohh the Swedes they just cant escape those Gothenburg sounds!).
The highest point in the album comes when “Death as Solution” enters the stage…or your ears to be more precise. Without a doubt the best song on the record, mixing all their ideas and riffs into one solid, very representative track. Revelation - The 7th Seal is a very forgettable album, without any hooks or any songs that can stand the test of time or even the most basic metal instincts; still those that are fans of the band will find a solid piece for their collection.
