After an amazing album debut in 2003, this German/Norwegian super group comes back with yet another level of heavy/power metal that will make you question every other band of the genre that you use to worship.

Jorn Lande’s vocals are just amazing, clean, powerful and…well he’s superb on this record. Every song has life on its own and don’t really need the rest of the album to stand out, is like they made a “Best of” record without even knowing so. Aeronautics is conceived with great riffs and memorable choruses, making a great mix of outstanding musicianship and the kind of simplicity that makes you love every single minute of the record. This is one of those albums made from great musicians and dedicated or focus on the normal, regular, every day metal fan; the guitars are at its best, but they don’t complicate stuff, its more than obvious that this band can write more complex music if they just felt like it, but they just want to write and play metal.

There are some power metal bands that exaggerate in their use of the keyboard, that’s not the case with Masterplan, they know when and how to use them, making the keyboards a great element that adds quality and rhythm to every song. The album has ups and downs (not in quality in speed) some songs are slow ballads that help Jorn show just how good he can be and some faster power metal tracks that speed things up giving life to a universe of well played, powerful metal that will have you coming back for more.

A certain hard rock feeling is sprinkled all over some tracks, and this is not a big surprise really, what’s a surprise is just how close Masterplan gets to a new idea and just flirts with it with out compromising their general sound, something only a great musician can do and get away with.

This is a great album, maybe better than their debut album, and definitely a turning point for the band, establishing their style of playing and making us wonder, how is Materplan going to top this album?
