If by now you still don’t know who Municipal Waste is, then you are retarded! No seriously, not just because of their self explanatory, intense, and damn fun music, but because Earache Records put some awesome promotion efforts to let the gospel of crossover reach the masses and MW is spread nowadays all over the world, slowly but firmly instituting itself as the new DRI of the new century.
Not been their best album to date (this is a very personal opinion, since I just loved their 2005 album Hazardous Mutation, it was in some way rawer, a bit more “underground” yet understandable I think); “The Art of Partying” establishes the band as a genuine crossover outfit that likes to stay true to that label, but that is not afraid of adding and improving musically; example of this is the song “Beer Pressure” showing an “in depth” look at the real capacities MN has, not over complicating the song at any point but introducing some nice melodic guitar lines that drastically stray away from the simplistic but fun as hell thrash lines that develop through out “The Art of Partying”.
Municipal Waste can easily be clump right next to this so called “thrash revival” and we will not be totally wrong to do so; but there is a nice twist about the band and their sound, and if you haven’t figured out what that is then you are an insult to retard people all over the world! They are not traditional thrash metal they are crossover, and their punk influence is felt and exploited at every corner of the album, making them a real multidimensional band, that never forgets that is all about the riffs and how memorable they are, the perfect example of this is “Sadistic Magician”, perhaps (and more so thanks to the video on it) the song that will remain with you hours after listening “The Art of Partying”. These specific track accomplishes what pop music does with millions of dollars in advertisement and a whole marketing research team; that is to mesmerized people and make them keep coming back for more, this formula is quite simple when you are talented and know the true meaning of catchiness without compromise.
