Without a doubt in my mind and conscious this is Norther’s best effort yet. After years of comparisons with fellow countrymen Children of Bodom, Norther has created an album that will redefine the idea you had towards them.
“Till Death Unites Us” comes packed with the very distinctive Gothenburg sound (maybe because they recorded this album at Studio Fredman, Sweden), twin guitars blending in catchy and intricate melodies to culminate in raging solos and angry yet beautiful riffs. The album sounds fresh, sounds young, far behind are the years were the keyboards took the main stage and sort of create a gloomy atmosphere; in “Till Death...” the keyboards are harmoniously placed just to complement the guitars and their sound has changed a lot since “Mirror of Madness” they are a bit more epic without transforming the songs into a melodramatic piece.
Perhaps one of the weakest points is the fade back drum work, its nice, organic, natural, but for some reason is placed just a bit far behind, still nice just turn your bass as high as you can without loosing the great guitar work. You can hear a couple of clean vocals segments on this record, they are well placed and administer, and that’s exactly when you can hear the new idea Norther is trying to present.
You can’t ignore the improvement on the song writing, as well as a more “understandable” song structure, that pretty much means catchier choruses and more detail segments to just headbang as fast as you can.
Pay a lot of attention to the tracks: Drowning, Norther and Scream; this album is full of memorable tracks but those three are my favorites.
