A mid paced mix of thrash and melodic death metal with a weird but understandable fascination with THE KING (Elvis of course).
21st Century Killing Machine is a very nice album; with great solos, nice death growls, and a couple of rock & roll guitars that make it very interesting and fun to listen. The production like any other Nuclear Blast release is impeccable and the “groove” in some songs is remarkable.
One Man Army and the Undead Quartet was borne after the demise of another Swedish band The Crown, singer Johan Lingstrand then decided to form a new band and brought to life OMA&TUQ with the demo “When Hatred Comes To Life” in 2005.
Killing machine was a great choice as a starting track; with a very long and nicely played intro the album starts solid, and builds up some expectations about the following songs and the rhythms that will be taking place, this first track is one of the best ones in the whole album.
Devil on the red carpet is nice, not as powerful as Killing machine but it has some nice drums and a “groove” that will pretty much carry you without loosing the impact caused by the first track.
Public enemy No 1, helped me realize just how good Marek Dobrowolski is in the drums, tough, precise and with and amazing rhythm; this track also has some of the first and very impressive guitar solos on the album.
No apparent motive brings back every single detail that made Killing machine a catchy and fun track, they just added a couple of great guitar solos and some melodic death metal feeling to the track, nice song.
Hell is for heroes, is a slower track with a catchy chorus, and some tempo changes that guide you to more guitar solos nicely placed and played.
When hatred comes to life, has its moments but sadly is one of the weakest tracks on the album, just providing a few nice guitars, but not an interesting or attractive song structure.
In my opinion OMA&TUQ picked the wrong track to make a video of, I said that because So grim so true so real, is just another weak track, the only great thing about this song is Dobrowolski behind the drums, the rest is just placed to fill some void.
Sadly and the main reason why this album did get a 9.0 is because of the last three songs Behind the church, Branded by iron and Bulldozer frenzy, not bad tracks is just that they lost the energy the album was creating previous to their arrival. Anyway, you should buy this album if you are looking for some nice, “groovy” and rock & roll oriented death/thrash metal.
