This is one of those albums that starts decaying as the songs go progressing; if you are a fan of Bullet for my Valentine, As I lay Dying, Atreyu, Bury your Dead maybe you will find something in this album that will keep you listening until track 13, but if you are not, then you’ll stop this before it reaches track 3.

The art work of the album is great, I love those abstract forms put together in order to form the phoenix on the cover, nicely done.

When excuses become antiques is an album that could easily go into MTV most wanted as easy as Paris Hilton can say “that’s hot”, yes this is one of those albums that rich little girls can relate to and feel like their rocking as hard as they have ever done without been on a secret sex tape.

Ok so, the guys from Phoenix Mourning can play their instruments, well that’s at least what the production wants us to think; the drums are accurate and very gifted, maybe that’s the one and only good thing about this album, because the guitars keep playing some way over used metalcore riffs that go from melodic to heavy and with some annoying “stop and go” sections that really get a bit over the top after 4 songs; don’t even get me started with the clean vocals…oh yes go figure, clean vocals on a metalpop record, I mean metalcore album. Never the less, I don’t know if by mistake but these guys actually manage from time to time to serve a good melody, later ruined by the hardcore tempo changes; I don’t know why put out a record that has been done a million times before and I’m ok with bands putting out their OWN album a million times before, like Cannibal Corpse dose, but hey they first develop a sound then they kept doing the same album, but you know is Cannibal, and that’s the way they do things; but these guys are putting an album that ALL the other metalcore wanna be bands have already done.

Let me put it like this, my girl friend hates metal, but she thinks this record is “cute” I think that’s enough for you to make your mind…but hey this is just my opinion, go waste your time and listen to When excuses become antiques.

Ohh yeah before I forget, I like As I lay Dying, The Black Dahlia Murder, Bleeding Through, Killswicth Engage, and recently I found myself listening a lot to the new Neaera album, you know good metalcore.
