Let me be totally honest, I HATE Suicidal Tendencies!!! Yes I know this could be a sin considering the huge contribution they had on modern heavy metal and the whole “crossover” establishment, but I just do! So even knowing that, and hearing some of their influences on Short Sharp Shock, I have to say… I loved this album, just as much as I liked the other thrash/crossover band Earache was promoting big time this past 2007 (Municipal Waste).
Short Sharp Shock… just call them SSS why don’t ya! These Brits really took that crossover sound of the 80’s and overhaul it with insanely fast songs, angry in your face hardcore vocals, and some of the coolest, catchiest thrash riffs you have ever heard, and this is not an exaggeration, those riffs are catchy as fuck! All you have to do is listen to the first 4 songs to understand that this record deserves more than one spin.
The album has a very strong punk attitude: defiant, angry, insane and dirty. Very short songs, packed with almost radioactive energy keep you interested, headbanging and with a huge desire to get inside a mosh pit…any mosh pit as long as the music has a tenth of the energy and the catchy riffs as SSS does in this debut.
Another thing I HATE and I have incur in this myself more than once, are those reviews that state an obvious fact diminishing the importance of the album, and it goes something like this “it doesn’t redefines the genre, or invents anything new”…you know what I’m talking about! Well SSS is not some experimental, progg band that searches for a way to distinguish themselves from others, these guys just want to write and play good music, and they achieved that in this debut, so expect great things from SSS, I know I do!
