Usurper is an album that you don’t really need to hear in its entirety; just listen to one song and then picture the same riffs, with more breakdowns and maybe a small lyrical variation not to make it so obvious, for 10 more tracks.

That one song however might interest you, off course you have to be into huge amounts of hardcore style breakdowns, and “metalcore technicality” to actually enjoy those repetitive tempos.

Having read some other reviews about the album, and yes they are pretty much all very negative; their reasons actually escape me, not just because I’m not into hardcore music, but for the fact that some actually compare The Handshake Murders to Meshuggah! I mean I’m not a big Meshuggah fan, I find them pretty annoying but they are a huge step forward from these guys.

Getting back to Usurper, and looking at the positive side of the music; you can find some interesting guitar displays, sadly they just last a couple of seconds because of the incredibly annoying breakdowns that I have slowly but surely began to hate. Please, buy this, only and only if you find those bloody breakdowns a cool thing!
