I do have a big problem with split albums, a huge problem, and even bigger when all they do is play cover songs from their favorite bands and throw us a miserly pair of original tracks! If at least this was a tribute record to lets say the German thrash scene of the 80’s then, I could see the “beauty” in it, but just recording an album for the heck of putting out something that has your band name on it, just seems like a waste of time and resources to me… then again I’m no label manager or producer so what the fuck do I know, I’m only the customer!
Ok apart from my outburst on split albums with no original content, the four ORIGINAL tracks in this 13 piece deformity are not bad. First comes Throneum who was a total stranger to me until this record arrived (so I guess it served its purposed…god I wish I didn’t contradict myself so often!) this guys pretty much keep it simple, fast, aggressive and dirty as hell, blacken death metal that is, with huge thrash guitars all over the place; you can find a handful of interesting riffs, but it’s their insane speed and anger the qualities that keep you around until their set of covers arrives, which by the way only Execute Them All by Unleashed is very nicely displayed (It will be very hard to NOT make that song sound good), the rest even when they might not be totally terrible are just plain boring.
Then is the turn for Revelation of Doom, a band I do know and I do like, both their tracks are impeccable; “Sodomizing The Trinity” is groovy, powerful and satanic as this guys intended it to be, their blacked death metal is so much catchier, with lots of hooks and memorable riffs played at hipper speed, been “Holy Grail, Holy Flesh” the dirtier of them both and also the simpler. With Revelation their best cover is definitely “Witching Metal” by Sodom.
This is one of those productions that is only appreciated by diehard fans of the bands in it, because let me tell you, I’m not planning on going to look out for Throneum after those two tracks, I’ll on the other hand go and take my Unleashed cd out and play the heck out of it!
