Death American metal, yes this is a perfect example of the way Americans play death metal; fast, sharp riffs, quick double bass drumming, brutal vocals and violent lyrics, really a great example of the way aggressive death can be played.
The great thing about this album is the straight forward death metal sound of everything placed in the mix; however there are a couple of unique ideas in some riffs, just to keep things fresh and interesting, a feature that gives Vile an identity and gives live to The New Age of Chaos.
The lyrics are very political, hell they are the points of view of every American that supports the war in Iraq; maybe that factor will stop you from adoring this album intensely, but don’t pay to much attention to that since other bands talk about sex with corpses and I don’t see many complaining about it. Juan Urteaga wrote all the lyrics so maybe is not Vile’s point of view is just Urteaga point of view, ok enough with the lyrics; Urteaga’s vocals are not impressive, they are the standard for extreme death metal, they get the job done.
The songs go from fast to mid tempo pieces that find their inspiration in the tasteful guitar riffs of main man Colin Davis; a very good guitar player that doesn’t really reinvent death metal, but manages to placed a couple of nice and unique solos here and there.
Why is this album a good purchase? Well because is pure and straight forward death metal that doesn’t ramble trying to find and identity, this guys knew what they wanted to do; brutal, powerful death metal, and they did it. Maybe I don’t agree with Juan Urteaga and his lyrics (actually to me he is an idiot, and maybe my “No war” ideas make me an idiot in his eyes as well, so I guess is all a matter of opinion). Get this record if you are craving a dose of brutal death metal.
