This is what happens when you let a brilliant songwriter create the album he wants; “Metal/Technology” is a hybrid of different melodic metal genres that stands out thanks to the familiar and heavy sounds displayed all over the songs. Some songs may help you remember Iron Maiden, others AC/DC and some Nevermore, yes Winterlong travels through many different roads in this album, but all of them always end up in the same finish line, heavy, inventive, progressive and fun metal.

This record is Thorbjörn Englund creation, off course with the help of some awesome session musicians, but this Metal/Technology is all the ideas he had placed into a very well organized chunk of metal.

The guitars on the record couldn’t have been better executed, the tunes flow through different tempos and vibes creating a catchy progressive feeling, and some solos are incredible fast, they even sound a little Yngwie J. Malmsteen from time to time.

Like its name implies the album has some techno samples, you know some computer generated electronic samples, to some this could be annoying, but not to me, I really like a well included electronic part placed next to the organic sound of the drums, it helps both elements show what they really supply to the album. On tracks in the vein of “Like Ships In The Night” you can hear the electronic samples as well as a beautiful female vocal segment that may sound like the late Nightwish lead singer, very nice addition, not too much…just the right amount.

Even when the record has different influences and perhaps different sounds it all really comes down to a power/heavy/electronic metal, every song brings a new bag of riffs that will get your attention, I mean this album is catchy, and the display of talent is breath taking; take for example the amazing instrumental track “On a Demon's Night” jaw dropping, this guy is simply great in what he does, he’s got speed, creativity and he’s clean while maintaining a nice level of heaviness.

Englund plays with his voice on the entire album, from the most common harsh and deep interpretation very similar to Warrel Dane of Nevermore to a squeal rock n’ roll voice just like AC/DC something you can hear at it’s highest expression on “The Touch Of Evil”. “Cleaning The Machine” could be one of the songs with the biggest amount of electric samples on the album, at least is the one you can perceive as the one driving by this characteristic the most, a nice catchy “beat” in general.

But to me the best track on the album would be “The Hunter” the intro song, probably because is the song that includes all of Englund’s ideas for this record, progressive, heavy and catchy with a few electric samples embossing the tempos.
