This is the third record from the heavy power metal band Wolfcry, and is certainly a good effort from these Hellenic metalheads; still there is much work needed for Warfair to become a favorite album in your cd player.
The good: Clear, clean production, nice keyboards and some inspiring solos and scared all over this record. Good heavy power metal blend and a couple of strong and epic songs.
The Bad: Weird placement of the vocals; at some points the songs seem to be awfully familiar between one another and some keyboards segments are way too melancholic.
Once Again..., just an intro track with great keyboards and some heavy guitars.
...Here We Are, a good piece, all the instrument are tight; the vocals for some reason don’t fit at some points, Costas Hatzigeorgiou (vocals) seems tired and can't reach the high pitch, making the song sound awkward; good drum work and a very intelligent use of the keyboards.
Hesitant Gathering, terrible intro of the vocals, once again this is the weak point of the album. The song does have a good groove and some listenable guitars.
Maybe Wolfcry has a unique way of placing and performing the vocal side of their music, but they just sound weak; is like Hatzigeorgiou is too tired and doesn’t have the vocal power to reach some of the tunes.
Honored Expedition is a very epic track, nice rhythm, very catchy. By the track The Mirror Mask, the vocals have found a better placement, they still lack of strength, but at least they don’t sound as awkward as they did in the beginning of Warfair.
A very weird and actually a good surprise at the end of this record are the tracks 6 Must Die and the bonus Enola Gay; been 6 must die a sort of mix between power metal, melodic death metal and thrash; in my opinion the best track on the album, even if this is not the trademark sound of Wolfcry.
Like I said at the beginning of this review, a good effort, but Wolfcry needs to define which way they are going to take, since their sound is a little blur in defining exactly what they want from their music and their sound.
