For some reason Polish bands can transform absolutely everything into something brutal, heavy and metal as hell! North can do just that, by adding some folk influences in their crude, obscure and absolutely savage death/black metal, they have provided a record worthy of the most insatiable appetite for devastating blast beats and raw aggression… some call this, pure fucking metal!
So after establishing just how metal this record is (a 11 in a scale from 1 to 10), we have to dig into the actual music; and the conclusion of that is not very flattering for “Na Polach Bitew“ which obviously suffers from a repetition condition, that dooms it to the back of the bus, without actually paying much attention to the buried riffs and folk influences which might intrigue you, but that simply can’t retain your attention for more than one high spirited headbanging session (every neck has his limits you know!). North might have stumble upon a good idea, and a sort of interesting way of fusing different influences, but they lack in this record the ability to make them more than just interesting; and stuffing the songs with blast beats, and fast segments doesn’t fill the huge gaps that we can find between a nice folk based melody and the crude brutality of the record.
To be fair “Na Polach Bitew“ grows as songs keep passing by, allowing the band to dive into a more mid tempo attack and a bigger emphasis on melody; sadly this comes too little too late, because by the 5th track you have pretty much made up your mind about the style been displayed by North, and that style, that sound is the one that you can hear in the first three songs, leaving very little room for the improvements of the last two songs substantially affect your global perception.
